COCKTAIL RINGS
Every fashionista knows that this season cocktail rings are the must-have accessory, and Makoosh has plenty to offer. From rings set with a single large stone to pieces inspired by flora and fauna, any bold ring is sure to set off an outfit either through livening up a boring suit or adding the perfect compliment to evening wear.
Cocktail rings were put on the fashion map in the early 1920's as contemporary fashion-forwards used oversized, chunky rings as the perfect compliment to the embellished flapper dresses of the time. In the 1940's and 50's cocktail rings became a sign of ultimate diva status as glamour pusses Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn all chose detailed pieces to add a dash of sparkle.
In the 1980's cocktail rings became a strong symbol of a powerful woman, and were combined with masculine clothes to add a touch of femininity. Much of this season's catwalk shows have included aspects of a masculine wardrobe like the boyfriend cardigan, heavy knits and hats. By adding one of the many stunning cocktail pieces available at the moment, you can add girly glamour to such clothes and update any outfit, whether daywear or nightwear.
Many cocktail ring designs involve a simple large stone set in a gold or silver base, and this design can be timeless. However, you have to make sure it is a colour that will go with anything in your wardrobe, so a classic black stone, or pearl design may be good for both day or night wear and also match most outfits. Stoned cocktail rings don't have to be expensive either. Although having a set precious stone would be a great investment, contemporary designers and high street shops have cheaper alternatives on offer. For the bolder among you, bright colours are fantastic for turning heads and adding some uniqueness to an outfit, although you have to be confident to pull the look off. A big trend right now is also dangly rings as they create eye-catching movement to your sparkle. If you would prefer a statement piece to really add something different to an outfit, there are lots of rings with animal heads, snakes and flower designs this season. Of course these are a matter of taste but are really dramatic and eye catching.
When choosing a ring it is important to consider the wearability of an item and whether it will suit your wardrobe and style. Try and choose a piece that is a similar colouring to most of your clothes. It's good to bear in mind that cocktail rings are also very flattering as they are chunky and make your hand and fingers look dainty but, sometimes, they lose their effect when two or three are worn at the same time, so avoid the Elizabeth Taylor bling look and just combine your cocktail ring with a small pendant or dangly earrings. Some jewellers also make cocktail watches that match the cocktail rings but these can look overstated. Instead try a delicate bracelet, as it can complement the ring rather than distract from it.
Makoosh has a wide variety of different rings, with Anna Lou, Ice White of London and Pistachio Jewellery being some of our esteemed designers, with bold statement pieces and classic items. If you are looking for an investment piece of jewellery and a bang-on-trend bit of sparkle, then costume rings are definitely for you, and, don't forget with all this attention on your hands, having a cocktail ring is also a fantastic excuse to get a manicure!
